William R. Marks

June 20, 1933 — August 29, 2025

Rockford

On August 29, 2025, Bill Marks, went to meet his Savior, Jesus. We will miss him far more than words can truly express.

The man had a nature about him that cannot be described. He was meek, in the truest, most powerful sense of the word.

A former motorcycle police officer, and then later a dedicated security officer, he survived life altering ordeals and overcame things that doctors told him he would never be able to do. He was a literal walking miracle.

He was a fighter, but had a softness about him that was not matched by anyone. The love he showed and gave was unparalleled. He loved hard and he loved well! His entire family has always been in awe of him for his ability to do so.

Alongside his beloved wife, best friend, dance partner, and soul mate, Dawn, he built the very home he would choose to pass on in. He was almost as proud of that handlebar mustache as he was of his five children: Bonnie (Johnson), Kathi (Brown), Bill (Marks), Beckee (Simons), and Missie (Willingham). And he was a mentor to many, many more.

When hardship came, including the death of Dawn, his wife of 60 years, Bill stood firm like a mountain, and overcame to the end. Even into his 90’s, he insisted on getting up and working outside, mowing the lawn and tending his blueberries: much to the dismay—and maybe a little admiration—of those who tried to get him to rest.

A truly Godly man, who was unyielding in his faith in Jesus Christ our Lord. Filled with the Holy Spirit, truth, and a wisdom many pray for. This world has lost someone irreplaceable.

God, guide our lives, direct our paths, and keep us close to You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
