William Dennis Holmes, a cherished member of the Grand Rapids community and a devoted family man, passed away on May 29, 2026, in his hometown of Grand Rapids, Michigan, after a brief battle with cancer. Born on August 9, 1945, Bill’s life was marked by his entrepreneurial spirit, his love for storytelling, and his deep devotion to those around him.
Bill proudly graduated from Creston High School and furthered his education at Davenport University, equipping himself with the knowledge and skills that would fuel a successful career. Throughout his life, Bill owned several businesses, including Yukon Jacks, Beverage Center, Northend Snowplow, Parnell General, and the Lena Lou. Known for his genuine care for his customers, Bill not only remembered their names but treasured their life stories, always ready to lend a helping hand. This connection to the community defined much of his life’s work and brought a unique warmth to his many endeavors.
A natural talker, Bill loved sharing stories and listening intently to others. He found joy in every conversation and treasured the opportunity to connect with people. Above all, his family was his heart and soul. Bill took immense pride in sharing stories about his loved ones, a testament to the strong bonds he maintained throughout his life.
Bill’s family included his daughters Heidi Organek (Chris) and Kimberly Wilcox (Mark), his beloved grandchildren Lexie, Lainey, Leah Organek(father David), Nicole Braden (Nick), and Logan Wilcox (Ciara), as well as great-grandchildren Breck, Brynn and Kendal. His daughters’ mother, Kathleen Holmes, also survives him. Bill was a loving brother to Patty and Marylou, who, along with their families, remain grateful for his presence in their lives.
In his leisure, Bill found great joy in spending time with his grandson Logan, taking him shooting and proudly watching him develop his skills. Grocery shopping with Nicole. Watching Lexies dance videos and then her move to coaching dance. Taking Lainey to a Trump rally and teaching her all about Fox News or talking about her future in nursing. Teasing Leah about swimming in his pool with the frogs. His grandkids brought him so much joy.
Bill also cherished his home on Murray Lake, where he enjoyed boat rides and would enthusiastically speak about the history of the surrounding lands—a passion that reflected his deep connection to place and community.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William Holmes and Eleanor Holmes, whose memories he honored throughout his life.
Bill Dennis Holmes leaves behind a legacy of heartfelt community engagement, unwavering family devotion, and countless shared stories that will remain a cherished part of all who had the privilege to know him.
