William Sherman Cross

1939 — May 13, 2026

Allendale

William Sherman Cross, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and respected businessman, passed away peacefully at his home in Allendale, Michigan, on May 13, 2026, with his beloved wife Terri by his side. Born on November 18, 1939, in Huntsville, Tennessee, Bill’s life was marked by dedication, hard work, and a deep love for family and the outdoors.

Bill began his career working in the coal mines and later subcontracted for various builders. His ambition and commitment eventually led him to establish his own business, Cross Construction, which became a testament to his entrepreneurial spirit and work ethic.

Bill’s passions extended far beyond his professional life. He was an avid outdoorsman who found great joy in hunting, fishing, gardening, camping, and four-wheeling through the mountains of his native Tennessee. Equally, he cherished his time at church and the moments spent with family and friends, which were at the heart of his life.

He is survived by his cherished wife, Terri Cross, and his three daughters, Nancy Scott, Sheila Clemens, and Sharon Parks of Ohio. Alongside them are Terri’s three sons, Jeremy (Jennifer) Berens, Joseph (Erin) Berens, and Jordan (Amanda) Berens of Michigan. Bill’s legacy also lives on through his grandchildren: Ashley Cross of Tennessee; Shannon Scott, Sheena Scott, Shayla Cross, and Ricky Cross of Ohio; and MacKinsey, Logan, Lillian, Graysen, Kiliyn, and Kavary Berens of Michigan. Additionally, he took great pride in numerous great-grandchildren. His siblings include his sister Ruth Adam’s of Kentucky and his brother Virgil Cross of Tennessee, as well as his brother-in-law Troy Waterman of Michigan. He was also fondly surrounded by several nieces and nephews.

William was preceded in death by his devoted parents, Reverend Virgil and Versie Cross; five sisters and two brothers; two sister-in-laws and four brother-in-laws; as well as three grandsons, William Cross of Tennessee, Robert Mowery, and Ronnie Waldroop of Ohio; and a great-granddaughter, Lydia Ray Roger’s of Ohio.

A celebration of Bill’s life will be held on Saturday, June 13th, at 11:00 a.m. at Life Stream Church, located at 6561A Lake Michigan Drive, Allendale, Michigan. The family will be available to receive friends and well-wishers from 10:00 a.m. It will be a time for all who knew him to come together and honor the memory of a man whose life was enriched by hard work, faith, and an abiding love for his family.

William Sherman Cross’s legacy is one of perseverance, kindness, and commitment to those he loved. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to inspire all who were fortunate to know him.
