Wendy Ann Franken, a beloved mother, wife, sister, and friend, passed away unexpectedly on February 6, 2026, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She was born on November 15, 1965, in Lansing, Michigan, and from the very beginning, Wendy exhibited a spirit that would touch the lives of all who had the privilege to know her.

A proud graduate of South Christian High School in 1983, Wendy furthered her education by obtaining her LPN from Grand Rapids Community College. With a heart for service, she worked in home health care for many years, dedicating her life to caring for those in need. Her fierce commitment to helping others was matched only by her boundless compassion and kindness.

Wendy’s personality was a beautiful blend of love, warmth, devotion, and unwavering support. She possessed a unique ability to serve as a trusted and comforting friend, extending her love to countless individuals. Moreover, Wendy became a beacon of hope to many who had faced the heart-wrenching loss of a child through her involvement with Gilda's Club and various grief counseling initiatives. She was a light to those in their darkest hours, demonstrating a resiliency fueled by a relentless love for her family and friends.

Wendy is survived by her loving husband, Steve Franken; her cherished sons, Clif (Sam) Hoogterp, Ethan Hoogterp, and Blake (Kassie) Hoogterp; and her precious grandson, Kellen Hoffer. She is also survived by her brother, Vince (Luanne) MacNicol, many special cousins, and several beloved grandchildren who brought her immeasurable joy.

Wendy's profound love encompassed not just her immediate family but reached far and wide, touching the hearts of all who encountered her. Heaven has gained an angel, and we have lost a diligent warrior whose spirit transcends this earthly realm. The family takes comfort in the belief that she is now in the embrace of the Lord and united with her beautiful daughter, Aubrey Hoogterp, who preceded her in death, along with her devoted parents, Hugh and Marian MacNicol.

Wendy Ann Franken will be remembered as a sweet, kind-hearted soul whose legacy of love, compassion, and unwavering support will forever reside in the hearts of those she cherished and who cherished her.  A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
