Walter Leon Hardy peacefully passed away in his sleep on Saturday, April 9th after a lengthy health battle.
Walter was born December 1, 1950, in Muskegon, MI to William Lee and Annie Mae (Smith) Hardy. He was the second of six children including Jessi Lee (Harold) Wilborn, Annette (Gene) Adams, Don (Gloria) Hardy, Eddie Roy (Brenda) Hardy and Carole Ann Hardy. He graduated from Muskegon Heights High School in 1969 and married Rose Brown, his high school sweetheart, before leaving to serve two years in the U.S. Army as a Medic. They were married for 52 years, and their love continued to blossom to include many extended family and friends.
Walter was a loving father to his children Walter L. (Amanda) Hardy II, Markeia Hardy, Bridgette Hardy and Dana Hardy. He was also devoted to his grandchildren RaShaun Coleman, Emani Coleman, Kato Coleman, Markeon Hardy, Jazz Hardy, Charles Hardy, Mar’taven Hardy-Freeman, and J’Nyreia Hardy.
Walt was a provider for his family, working hard over the years at Misco-Howmet Plant, followed by Johnson Products, which later changed to Seal Power Hylift, for over 30 years.
Together, he and Rose were baptized as Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1977. Since then, he continued to loyally practice his faith, preaching, teaching, and serving over the years as an Elder in the Muskegon Southeast and Central Congregations. He loved and cared for all in his spiritual family.
Besides spending time with family and friends, Walt also loved watching football, especially the U of M Wolverines and the Dallas Cowboys, whose games he never missed. He enjoyed playing cards with Rose and best friends Jimmie and Pat Williams, as well as listening to music, especially The Blues and The Temptations, and walking on the beach collecting rocks and feeling the sand in his hands.
Cherishing his memory are his loving wife, children, grandchildren, sisters, brother, nephews, nieces and a host of so many other relatives, spiritual family, and friends. He was preceded in death by parents William Lee and Annie Mae Hardy, sister Jessie Wilborn and brother Don Hardy.
The family wishes to extend their sincerest thanks to all that reached out with calls, prayers, condolences, cards, food, and all gestures of kindness and support. They are also very grateful to the many medical and hospice staff who cared for him and the family through this time.
