Valerie Anne Smith, a beloved daughter, sister, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2024, at the age of 39 in Kalamazoo, MI. Born on January 21, 1985, in Berrien Springs, MI, to her loving mother, Marie Kimble, Valerie grew up with a zest for life that was infectious to all who knew her. Valerie's early education began at Croyden Avenue School, where her radiant smile and cheerful demeanor quickly made her a favorite among both peers and teachers. She continued her learning at Woods Edge Learning Center and later attended CDS, where she cultivated her love for people and became an integral part of the disabled community. In her personal life, Valerie was known for her love for music, movies, and books. She found great pleasure in the simple joys of a catchy tune, Disney films, or her story books. Her joy for these interests was only matched by her love for her friends, with whom she shared countless memorable moments. Valerie's laughter and sweetness brought light to every gathering, and her presence was a source of comfort and happiness for those around her. Valerie was the embodiment of love, humor, and friendliness. Her ability to connect with others and her unwavering kindness made her a beloved figure in her community. She had a unique talent for making everyone feel welcome and appreciated, traits that will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She is survived by her devoted mother, Marie Kimble, and her loving brothers, Geoffrey (Gretchen) Kimble, Spencer (Rhiannon) Kimble, and Patrick (Kirstin) Smith, and nieces and nephews. Valerie also leaves behind a family of heart at her CLO house, including housemates and staff who were an integral part of her life. Each family member, whether bound by blood or by bond, played an essential role in her story and will carry her spirit forward in their memories. Valerie's life was a testament to the power of love and friendship. Her warm heart, bright smile, and infectious laugh will be remembered by those who were fortunate enough to experience them. Though her time with us was cut short, the impact she made on the world will endure. We invite those who knew Valerie to reflect on the joy she brought into their lives and to honor her memory by embodying the qualities she so perfectly represented: love, humor, and friendship.
