Thomas Mcgarey

Thomas Michael McGarey, 72, a retired Security Guard from the Michigan Career and Technical Institute, passed away peacefully November 17, 2021 at 6:15 a.m. at Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo. Born October 10, 1949, to John and Shirley (Banfield) McGarey.

Thom enlisted in the Army in 1968 and served in Vietnam where he was a Door Gunner on a UH1 Huey Helicopter for Company B229 First Air Cav. Thom was a lifetime member of VHCMA, and VFW and DAV.

On April 28, 2001 Thom married Maggie and spent many wonderful years together, enjoying life to the fullest. Thom enjoyed playing golf, bow hunting, and loved spending time with his family. Thom is survived by his wife, Maggie McGarey; children, Karen (Russell) Keehl, Shannon (Kenneth) Cantwell, David McGarey, Kelly (Kenneth) Peetz, Tracy (Daniel) Trezil. Grandchildren Jonathon, Alex, Abbigail, Courtney, Deaven, Tyler, Sydney, Lucas, Samantha, Jacob, Ashley, Sarah, and Lauren. Great Grandchildren Amaya, Zariah, Brielle, Cali, Myles, siblings Bonnie (Jim) Mowry, Colleen (Alan) Hunt, Kelly (Todd) Mills, many nieces and nephews, and lifelong friend Jerry Sairls. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Shirley McGarey.

There will be a short service held at Fort Custer located at 15501 W. Dickman Rd., Augusta MI 49012 on December 1, 2021 at 2:30 p.m. Immediately following will be a luncheon at the VFW Hall on 13549 W, M-96, Augusta, MI 49012. Please meet at the VFW Hall by 1:55 to follow to the cemetery, as we all need to go at the same time.
