Thomas Edwin Fick, Sr., age 86, passed away on August 10, 2020 at Faith Hospice at Trillium Woods in Byron Center. He was born on June 24, 1934 in Grand Rapids to Frank and Irene (Kennedy) Fick. Tom grew up in Grand Rapids and at the age of 12 he contracted Polio which resulted in spending many weeks in an isolation hospital. He graduated from South High School in 1952. After high school he joined the U.S. Coast and was stationed in the Boston Harbor area where he served tending buoys. Tom ended up breaking his foot and was able to return home to marry his high school sweetheart, Madelyn (Church) on January 9, 1954. They were married 53 years. Upon returning home from service, he started his career with Michigan Bell where he worked for 33 years. He retired early, at age 55, to spend time with the love of his life and travel throughout the United States in their 5th wheel trailer. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Lynn and his second wife Joan (Wood) Fick his older sister, Norma Jean Fick and his younger brother, Gerald Fick. Tom is survived by his sister, Nancy (Bob) Piegari of Hemet, CA, his sister-in-law Joyce Fick, his sons, Thomas E (Julie) Fick Jr. and Michael Lee (Marianne) Fick Sr. and his daughter Carol Lynn (Joe) Burzynski; his 8 grandchildren, Diana (Billy) Grein, Thomas E Fick III, Patricia Fick (Dan), Michael Lee (Heather) Fick Jr., Jessica (Brandon) Walsh, John D (Lindsey) Fick, Adam J (Aimee) Burzynski and Elizabeth A. Burzynski. He also has 13 precious and loved great grandchildren. Cremation has taken place. A private memorial gathering for family will take place at a later date.
