Sylvia Hain

After many years battling with dementia, Sylvia Mary (Petter) Hain went home to be with her Lord and Savior on May 6,2026. She was born at the family home in Rothbury, Michigan on August 26, 1931. She was the daughter of Theodore Petter and Bertha (Beardsley) Petter.

Moving to Whitehall in 1937, Sylvia became a life-long resident. She graduated from Whitehall High School. Always the worker, Sylvia began her first job at age 14, at White Lake Dairy Bar.  After graduation, Sylvia worked as a secretary for Whitehall Police Department for several years. She was then hired to be head of HR at Misco when they first opened their doors. She was there when the first casting was made. She was also one of four people who started the original Misco Credit Union.

In 1954,Sylvia married Harold Hain, and once they started a family she left Misco. After her youngest son started school, she worked part time at her church, White Lake Congregational UCC, as church secretary for 33 years. She was a lifetime member of the American Legion, and VFW.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, sister Katherina Schneider, and her husband Harold Hain. Sylvia is survived by her sons, James Hain, Sr.,Harry (Anita) Hain, Michael (Karen) Hain, and David (Lori) Hain. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Kristoffer (Karen) Hain, Jennifer Hain, James Hain, Jr. (Kelly Duncan), Caitlyn (Avley) Haisel, Alisha (Mykel) Lee, and Lindsey (Austin) Ball.

Sylvia had 11 great-grandchildren, Alan J. Larson (Allison Prim), Connor Hain, Gabriel Hain, Rachelle Lee, Skyler Lee, Walker Lee, Adalind Hain, Jeremiah Hain, Cameron Hain, Isabelle Ball, and Sofia Ball, as well as two nephews, Richard and Raymond Schneider.

Per her wishes, a private graveside ceremony will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to White Lake Congregational United Church of Christ.
