Steve Esman lost a brave fight against cancer December 21, as the night came to a close. He was surrounded by family and friends as he took his last breath.
Steve was born to Linda (Givans) Esman and Henry Esman Junior. He was preceded in death by his beloved longtime partner Lynette Rocha and his younger brother Codie. He is survived by his parents and siblings Lisa (Brian) Kempkers, Lorrie Jamison and Stephanie Esman, also survived by several nieces and nephews. Steve is also survived by a young man Steven Harmon, son of Lynette Rocha. Steve helped to raise Steven for over 20 years and continued to guide him after Lynette passed. Steve lived a simple life often times you would find him tinkering in the garage with his dad, fixing up cars for anyone who asked for help. When Steve met Lynette he took on the role of dad for Steven, Steve became an integral part of Lynette‘s family and over the years was involved in many holiday celebrations, birthdays, and weddings. Steven and Lynette were planning to be married at Halloween but Lynette passed in May of that year. Steve’s days after Lynette‘s passing consisted of taking Steven to work, punching into his job, and later he would wait to pick up Steven. Steve spent a lot of time at the cemetery where he would tell Lynette about his day. When Steve had the first of his episodes, he was taken to the hospital. Once he learned his full diagnosis he knew his fate, having watched his grandpa and uncle go through the same thing. He decided that he would rather die at home with the help of hospice and not the hospital, there was nothing that could be done to change his outcome. A short 44 days later he passed at home surrounded by his family. Steve will be missed as he was loving, kind, and always there with a hand to help . He was quiet, funny, and a huge animal lover. His favorite were the cats that occupied his home and they loved him just as fiercely. Making donations in his name to the SPCA of southwest Michigan would make him smile.
