It is with profound sorrow and cherished memories that we announce the passing of Stephan Charles Goebel, affectionately known as Steve, who completed his earthly journey on January 18, 2025, at the age of 73. Born on November 24, 1951, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Steve was a beacon of light and joy to all who knew him. His final days were spent surrounded by love in Rockford, Michigan, where he peacefully succumbed to illness.


Steve was the beloved son of the late Charles and Hilma "Hi" Goebel and the cherished brother of the late Cheryl Deible. His legacy continues through his loving family: son Richard (Katie) Goebel, grandchildren Brooke (Alex) Westdorp and great grandchild Hayes, Katelyn (Draven) Pederson, and stepchildren Abigail and Alex Williamson; and daughter Rachel (Stan) Dombroski, along with grandchildren Toriana and Thea. Stepsons Guntis (Justine) and Kaspar Dredzels and great grandchildren Brynlie and Kaisen, and Hayes Westdorp. Despite the profound loss of his grandson Austin Goebel, Steve's memory will be a guiding star for his family.


Steve attended Creston High School, Steve's formative years were marked by the joy of friendships and a burgeoning sense of community that would follow him throughout his life. After graduation, Steve embarked on a rewarding career with the railroad, dedicating many years of service to CSX before his well-earned retirement. His work ethic and camaraderie with colleagues are fondly remembered by all who worked alongside him.


In his leisure time, Steve found solace and excitement on the golf course, a passion that allowed him to forge lasting friendships and enjoy the beauty of nature. His innovative spirit was evident in his love for working with his 3D printer, a hobby that showcased his creativity and ingenuity. Above all, Steve's love for his church family was unwavering. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, providing strength, comfort, and a sense of belonging.


Steve's warm smile, generous heart, and unwavering kindness will be profoundly missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His spirit, characterized by love and resilience, will continue to inspire those who carry his memory in their hearts.


As we bid farewell to a man of integrity, humor, and profound love, we celebrate the life of Stephan Charles Goebel—a life lived fully and with purpose. His story is one of connection, perseverance, and the joy found in everyday moments. Steve's departure from this world leaves a void that can never be filled, but his influence will continue to be felt through the lives of those he touched.

There will be a service at Three Angels Fellowship at 5439 Kies Street in Rockford on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at 3:30 pm. Friends and family are welcome to visit beginning at 3 pm.
