San Juan (John) Del Vally Benavidez, age 70, of Holland, Michigan, passed away peacefully at his home on July 20, 2024 surrounded by his loving family in his final moments. Born on April 14, 1954 in Tyronza, Arkansas, he was a man of immense humor and wisdom, devoted to his Catholic faith, cherishing every moment spent with his loved ones, including his fur child Sofie. His passion for his family will forever be remembered.


John grew up in Fennville, Michigan and worked many years at Textron Micromatic (Excello) in Holland, Michigan. He was a great father, son, brother, uncle, grandfather, husband, and a friend to many. He always supported his children through sports, education and many other lifestyle decisions growing up. John enjoyed many riding adventures on three wheelers and motorcycles with his children, he also enjoyed watching scary movies, doing magic tricks and playing pranks on people. John had a deep affection for music which he loved to share through his singing and whistling. He was also a very competent handyman who could fix anything that involved home and automotive repairs. John was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, even to complete strangers. In his later years he enjoyed spending time with his loving wife Susie and son Johnny. He still enjoyed watching scary movies, gardening, and shopping at flea markets looking for his next cowboy hat. He remained a constant handyman and enjoyed working with his hands until the end. We will forever miss his sense of humor, contagious laugh and devotion and love for his family.


He is survived by devoted wife Susana; his loving children and their spouses Juan and Gabriela Benavidez, Alma and Raul Alonzo, Rodrigo and Vicki Benavidez, Cynthia and Johnny Lara, Gabriel and Nora Benavidez, and Johnny Benavidez.


His treasured grandchildren, Joshua and Isabella Benavidez; Anabel and Fabian Alonzo; Elias, Abel (Chavez), Noah, Izaiah, Catalina and Coreena Benavidez; Analicia Lara; Gabriel II, Gulian, Gizele Benavidez. Great grandchild; Oliver Chavez; his siblings Frutoso and Vicki Benavidez, Frankie and Dorothy Benavidez, Lupe and Ted Maciel, Benita Zoco, Tila Cabrera; one half-sibling; many nieces and nephews, stepchildren; Luis Alberto Pérez, Francisco Javier Pérez, José Luis de la Cruz, Joshua Pérez also extended family who will continue to honor his legacy by living their lives to the fullest.


John was preceded in death by his parents, Apolinar and Frutoso Benavidez; grandson, Jakob Benavidez; his sister, Ester Benavidez; his brother and sister-in-law, Ernesto and Sandra Benavidez; and his nieces and nephews, Jesse Benavidez, Eladino Fraire, Ema Fraire, Pauline (Polly) and Joe Ferrell, Frances Wheeler; and three deceased half-siblings.


John will be laid to rest at 3:00 pm on Friday, July 26th, 2024 at North Holland Cemetery located at 2436 Beeline Rd. Holland, MI 49424 Flowers may be sent to Grand Rapids Cremation Services for San Juan Benavidez. Address: 4350 Plainfield Avenue NE., Grand Rapids, MI 49525.
