Obituary

For many years, Ryan has suffered with issues! Issues of guilt, responsibilities and feeling as if he couldn't measure up to peoples expectations. Most of these issues he put upon himself. Ryan does not suffer anymore. On Monday May 17th, 2026 Ryan Scott Potter died. He is at peace!

Ryan was born April 2, 1991, at Highpoint Regional Hospital in Highpoint, North Carolina. At the tender age of 8 weeks old his family moved him to Michigan, where he grew up. He attended Battle Creek Public Schools and graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 2009. While in school Ryan took up the trombone. He played in the Bearcat Marching Band and he loved every minute of the time he spent playing music and socializing with his band mates... his band family if you will. If you knew Ryan, you knew he could be a social butterfly.

After High school, he and his family moved further north to Newaygo County where his roots run deep. He finally ended up in Grand Rapids where he met Catrina Eller. He and "Trina" created 3 amazing children together, Caelyn, Simon, and Oliver. Ryans' children were the light of his life. He was a great Dad who played with his kids all the time and tried to make them feel as important and loved as he could. They would often have "Spa Days" where they'd do each others hair, make-up, nails and dress up. There may be video evidence of Ryan dressed in a formal gown and twirling and dancing with his 2 oldest. Most everything Ryan did centered around his children and thier needs.

Ryan could be unapologeticly blunt! This didn't sit well with some. But Most of us could see beyond that and saw him exhibit kindness, He was also compassionate, loving, and had a great sense of humor that made you love spending time with him. He once took a little sparrow who was either sick or injured, with him to Walmart to go shopping. It would sit on his shoulder, or his lap or in the cart. He was so proud of the fact that he could now consider himself a "Disney Princess".

Unfortunatly Ryan lived a short life. We did not get enough time with him. But the life he lived he lived fully. He will be so abundantly missed by his children Caelyn Potter, Simon Potter, Oliver Potter and their mother Catrina Eller, all of Clarksville, MI. Also surviving is his mother Renee Potter of Fremont, brother Steven M Potter of Muskegon and his significant other April Wagner of St. Louis Missouri. He also leaves behind his maternal Grandmother Ruth L Deters of North Carolina, his maternal Aunt Roxanne {Craig) Artis, Uncles Timothy {Patty} Deters , Anthony (Melida} Deters, and Jason {Tina} Deters.  On the paternal side he leaves Uncles Steven T (Karen) Potter, and John (Bonnie) Potter, Aunts Faith Potter, Joy Bridgman, and Judy Konoff as well as cousins on both sides too numerous to list here. Ryan has a very large extended family! Oh... and we mustn't forget his faithful canine companion, Darla Jean Potter!

Ryan unfortunatly didn't get to know his Dad because his Father Andrew Eugene Potter preceded him in death 6 months after Ryan was born. He was also preceded in death by his maternal Grandfather Robert L Deters, His uncle Terry Deters,  His paternal Grandparents Lloyd and Jessie Potter, and his aunt Molly Sayers and his "Aunt" Michelle M Slone. A memorial service for Ryan will be held June 6, 2026 at 1pm at The Christian Life Center  539 E Pine St. Fremont, Michigan 49412, with a luncheon to follow.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the family to assist with costs, or a charity of ones choice in his name.
