Roger Dykstra

September 28, 1954 — September 2, 2022

It is with great sadness that the family of Roger Norman Dykstra, age 67, announces his passing on Friday September 2nd, 2022. The son of Bernadine and Johannas Dykstra, he was born September 28, 1954, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Roger is lovingly remembered by his son and daughter-in-law Jason (Brianne) Dykstra, stepdaughter Brittany Schneider, and grandchildren Eliot, Jackson, and Jon.

He is survived by two sisters Barb Frary and Sue (Mark) VanKoevering and brother Gary (Cathy) Dykstra. He will also be fondly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Prudence Dykstra; son, Nicholas Dykstra; sister, Charlene Doublestein.

A graduate of Grandville high school class of 1972, Roger worked as a Master electrician with Strain Electric for 38 years. When he wasn’t working, he loved riding his Harley Davidson and watching and attending sporting events with his sons. He instilled a love of the Detroit Lions in them from an early age that Jason is now passing onto his own children.

People who just met Roger, or who didn’t know him too well may describe his as being tough and having a hard exterior. Those who loved him were blessed to see the soft, supportive, loving man that would do anything for his friends and family.

A celebration of Roger’s life will be held Thursday September 15th from 3 to 7pm at Townsend Park in Cannon Township. There will be an open mic for anyone that might have a few words to say and guests are encouraged to bring along any pictures of Roger that would like to share.
