Robert Swifink

October 4, 1944 — November 11, 2024

Robert “Bob” "Swifty" Swifink, a cherished soul known for his clever wit, sense of humor, and skilled craftsmanship, passed away peacefully from natural causes while surrounded by those he loved on November 11, 2024, at the age of 80 at his home in Muskegon, Michigan. Born on October 4, 1944, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Swifty lived a life full of love, laughter, and the simple joys of his many hobbies.

Bob attended Ottawa High School, then joined the Army, after which he dedicated many years of service to Steelcase before retiring at the young age of 56.

Beyond his career, Swifty was a man of many interests. His love for golf led to countless hours on the green, enjoying the camaraderie of friends and family. Woodworking was another of his passions, leaving behind beautiful, lasting creations that became treasured heirlooms. An avid pool player, Swifty was known for his strategic plays and friendly banter around the billiards table which included sharing a few cold ones and a good laugh.

A lifelong football fan, Swifty's loyalty to the Detroit Lions and the Kansas City Chiefs was unwavering. His humorous regret was that he wouldn't be here to witness the Lions play the Chiefs in the Super Bowl.

Bob’s memory will be cherished and kept alive by his loving family. He was a devoted father to his son, Todd (Heidi) Swifink, and daughter, Kim (Carlos) Sarmiento. His grandchildren Skylar (Johnathan) Otterbein, Taylor Swifink, Dawson Ricord, and Cortney Ricord will miss his playful spirit and sarcastic comments. Bob also leaves behind his sisters, Joyce DeGroot and Jan (Lance) Mitchell, as well as his sister-in-law, Dayle (Robert) Moylan, and brother-in-law, Robert Terpstra and many nieces and nephews.

Bob was reunited with his loving wife Jerre, who no doubt greeted him with an eye roll, a chuckle and open arms. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Frances Swifink; parents-in-law, James and Dorine Terpstra; brothers-in-law, Jimmy Terpstra and Loren DeGroot; and sister-in-law, Bonnie Terpstra.

Those who knew Swifty will remember him as a friendly face, always ready with a joke and a smile. His funny anecdotes and sarcastic nature could lighten up even the gloomiest of days. Swifty's presence brought joy and warmth to every room he entered, and his absence will be deeply felt by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of crossing his path.
