Robert Swart

January 17, 1932 — August 16, 2024

Robert Calvin Swart, known as Bob to his friends and family, passed away peacefully of natural causes on the 16th of August, 2024, at the age of 92 in his hometown of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Born on January 17, 1932, also in Grand Rapids, Bob's journey was marked by a friendly grin, a spirit of adventure, and the innate ability to fix just about anything.

Bob's life was one of dedication and service. After proudly serving his country as a member of the US Marines, he channeled his discipline and skill into a successful career as a home builder. His work not only provided shelter but also created homes for many, standing as a testament to his hard work and craftsmanship.

Bob's passion for life extended well beyond his professional endeavors. He was an avid bowler, an occasional spectator at Tiger baseball games, and an enthusiastic participant when playing softball with his family. He loved fishing and hunting. His love for antique cars was more than just a hobby; it was a part of who he was. Bob could often be found at car shows or adding to his collection of classic automobiles. His weekends were spent scouring flea markets and auctions, always on the lookout for a hidden treasure or a new project to tinker with in his garage.

Bob is survived by his beloved children, Cynthia (Richard) Hubble, Jodie (Sam) Amshey, Robert (Arcelia) Swart, James (Samantha) Swart, and Debra Brock. Bob was a proud grandfather to 11 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. He was also a big brother to Kenneth (Kathy) Swart as well as several nieces, nephews and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his former wife Arden Swart, his two sisters, (Ruby, Bernice) and a brother (Arvin).

As we remember Robert Swart, we celebrate a life well-lived, a journey well-traveled. Bob's memory will live on, not only in the structures he built and the cars he cherished but in the hearts of all who knew him.

In honoring Bob's life, we acknowledge the end of an era. He will be missed. Rest in peace, Bob; your journey here is complete, but your story will forever be told.
