Robert John Swanson, known affectionately as Bob to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2025, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, surrounded by his family. Born on October 8, 1960, in Cadillac, Michigan, Bob's infectious laughter and kind spirit were a blessing to all who knew him throughout his 64 years of life.
Bob's early life in Manton set the stage for a man who valued family, friends and the simple joys of life. A proud graduate of Manton High School in 1979, he furthered his education with college courses in sales and marketing, which served him well in his professional endeavors.
His family was the cornerstone of his life. Bob's loving wife, Terri Swanson, was his steadfast partner in all of life's adventures. Together, they raised two wonderful children, Rob, with his wife Carey, and Michelle, with her husband Cole Strange. Bob was a cherished grandfather to Lizzy Whitehead, Katie Swanson, Drake Swanson, Weston Strange, and Caden Strange, and he was overjoyed to become a great-grandfather to Lola Pifer. He is survived by his sister Patti Hilton and preceded in death by his parents, John and Joy Swanson, and sister, Susan Bigelow. His role as a family man was one he held most dear, and the legacy he leaves in his family's hearts is enduring.
Bob took great pleasure in spending time with his family, whether it was on vacations with his wife or simply enjoying a good meal at a favorite restaurant. Some of his favorite memories were of spending time with his son Rob going to Tiger baseball games, and bird hunting with his brother-in-law, Chuck Bigelow who taught him so much about life. Bob's contagious laughter could light up a room, and his presence made every gathering a memorable one.
As we say goodbye to Robert John Swanson, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of laughter, love, and friendship. A memorial service will be held on March 8th at 11:00 am at the United Methodist Church of Manton. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Manton UMC General Fund in his honor.
His absence leaves a deep void, but his presence will always be felt in the stories, traditions, and love he shared.
