Robert "Bob" James Peterson, 79, passed away peacefully at his home on July 6, 2026, surrounded by his loving daughters. His passing came just months after the loss of his beloved wife of more than 56 years, Jean Ann Peterson, with whom he shared a lifetime of love, laughter, and devotion.
Bob was born on December 20, 1946. He graduated from Catholic Central High School before proudly serving his country in the United States Army as a Military Policeman. Following his military service, he earned an Associate degree in Criminal Justice. He later built a long and respected career with Meijer, retiring as a truck driver after years of dedicated service.
Bob was a man who rarely met a problem he couldn't solve. Whether he was tinkering in the garage, tackling a carpentry project, or figuring out how to repair just about anything, he took pride in working with his hands. He had a lifelong passion for deer hunting and enjoyed collecting and learning about firearms of all kinds, Westerns and War movies. Those who knew Bob will remember his quick wit, his unforgettable sense of humor—sometimes delightfully inappropriate—and his love of a good prank. He had a way of making people laugh and leaving them with stories they would tell for years.
Above all, Bob treasured his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend whose love was shown through his steady presence, practical wisdom, and willingness to help whenever he was needed.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Ann Peterson; his infant son, Andrew John Peterson; his son-in-law, James Chason; his parents, Lorraine (Fred) VanStrien and Peter Peterson; and his brothers, Rick and Paul Peterson, Ade VanStrien.
He is survived by his daughters, Stacy Peterson and Erika Long (Jamie); his cherished grandchildren, Gage, Nathan, Jacob Long, and Lillian Collins; his siblings, Carol, Joe (Brenda), and brother-in-law, Ed Lass; the Zamiara sisters and their families; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever remember his kindness, humor, and generous spirit.
Bob's legacy lives on in the lessons he taught, the laughter he shared, and the love he gave so freely to those around him. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
