Robert Lowry

June 12, 1933 — January 4, 2022

Robert Hugh Lowry of Ada/Cascade passed away January 4, 2022 at the age of 88 after a battle with Parkinson’s disease.

Bob was born June 12, 1933 to Hugh and Edith (Martin) Lowry in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan Canada. He lived at the family farm in Watson before moving to Winnipeg, Manitoba, (hence his college nickname “Winnie”) His formative years were spent playing hockey for the West End Memorials (signing a contractual note with the Montreal Canadiens receiving $25 and a new pair of skates), curling for Manitoba and in 1947 playing box lacrosse as he attended Gordon Bell High School. His family moved to Snow Lake for a time and then immigrated to Detroit in January 1951. Bob finished at Mackenzie High School in Detroit and was drafted into the Army at Fort Knox and then El Paso, Texas. He attended the University of Texas and graduated from Wayne State University with a Bachelors in Business Administration. After graduation Bob began a storied career with 3M Company as a Key Account Representative in the Printing and Publishing Division calling on major newspaper markets in the U.S. Throughout his career he formed many successful relationships and left a lasting impact on everyone he worked with. Remember when USA TODAY came out in color? Bob was one of the people responsible for that process.

In August 1959 he married Sally McLeod, his beloved and devoted wife. He is survived by Sally and two daughters (two of the luckiest girls in the world) Colleen (Brad) Alward, Dane, Ciaran, Patterson, and Lizabeth (Bob) Reilly, Olivia & Sally. His sister Alice Avedisian, Dale and Sandra McLeod, nieces, nephews and cousins. Bob & Sally were long time members of Trinity United Methodist Church. In their retirement, Bob & Sally were enthusiastic travelers and visited 27 countries. Bob’s lifelong sporting passions led him to be a Ski Patrol at Pando/Cannonsburg, helping to start GRAHA and Forest Hills Youth Lacrosse. He coached the Forest Hills Boys and girls lacrosse teams for many years. Bob served as an Ada Township Trustee on the planning commission where he was involved in the Ada redesign plan.

The family would like to thank the staff at Sunrise Cascade and Emmanuel Hospice for their excellent care of Bob.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu, of flowers, donations can be made to your favorite lacrosse or hockey team/club or the charity of one’s choice.
