Robert J Engel (Uncle Bob) died of congestive heart failure and dementia on July 4, 2025.
Bob was employed for forty years by Bohn Aluminum in South Haven as a UAW Journeyman Tool and Die Maker. Upon retirement from Bohn, he started his second career as an accomplished charter boat captain. He fished many seasons on Lake Michigan in his boat The Best Chance.
In addition to being an avid fisherman, Bob was a hunter and all around sportsman. He enjoyed both golfing and bowling, participating in leagues of both sports. He also enjoyed an occasional trip to the casino.
Bob was a lifetime Chicago White Sox fan. He also liked complaining about the Detroit Tigers and Lions.
Born January 8, 1938 to Albert and Lola Engel in Allegan, Michigan, he was a lifelong resident of Douglas. He married the love of his life, Patricia Skinner, on June 18, 1957. They were happily married for 68 years.
Bob is survived by his wife, Patricia, daughters Pamela Marczuk (John Davidson), Cynthia Engel (Dana White) and son Robert A. Engel (Lisa Engel); seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his daughter Sandra Guertin (Dave Guertin) and grandson Jacob Engel (Rose Engel).
Cremation has taken place. There will be a Celebration of Life event to be announced at a later date.
