Richard Darner, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on August 16, 2025, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born on November 10, 1944, in Chicago, Illinois, and spent much of his life dedicated to his family and profession.
He dedicated 42 years of his life to Arrow Uniform Rental, where he built a reputation not only for his work ethic but also for his friendly demeanor and engaging stories. His colleagues appreciated his presence, and he was honored to serve in a community he cherished. In his younger years, Richard was an avid bowler with a 300 game. He was a fan of the Detroit Tigers and Detroit Lions, and his loyalty to these teams was unmatched. His love for baseball and football often led to spirited discussions with friends and family, where he passionately defended why those calls on the field were complete travesties (even if they were, often, not).
A devoted family man, Richard is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Linda Darner; daughter Lisa Walbeck and son-in-law Eric Walbeck; as well as his cherished grandchildren: Ryan, Emily, Kristina, and Kendall. He also leaves behind his brother, Larry (Karen); and sister, Patsy. Additionally, he had a close relationship with his former daughter-in-law, Michelle Darner.
He was preceded in death by his son, Kevin Darner, and his parents, Lloyd and Georgina Darner. Richard also joins his siblings in eternal rest: Gloria, Lloyd, Joyce, Bobbie, Betty, and Ron.
His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him and within the stories he shared so vibrantly. A private memorial will be held at a later date to celebrate Richard’s life.
