Richard Corwin

March 14, 1950 — July 4, 2024

Richard Russell Corwin, 74, affectionately known as Rusty or Buck passed away peacefully at home on July 4th surrounded by his loving family. He was well known as a good and honorable man.


Rusty was born March 14th, 1950, in Grand Haven. An Eagle Scout, rodeo cowboy, and racecar driver during his younger years, Rusty graduated Grand Haven High School in 1968 and furthered his education at Ferris State College. A Vietnam Veteran, he served as part of the 1st Cavalry Division Air Mobile, 7th Cavalry Regiment and proudly wore their insignia throughout his life. After being injured by a grenade, he was transferred to Japan then Germany to complete his tour as a dog handler and MP in the Black Forest. Upon returning from his service, he married Charlotte Mary Fullerton, the love of his life, on August 19, 1972 and were together every day for 52 years. He also started C&R Automotive with lifelong friend Craig Saurbaugh, a business he later made a family operation for the remainder of his life. Rusty was passionate about fabricating racecars for the race team he owned with his son. Acting as crew chief, they won several track championships at local racetracks.


Rusty is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years Charlotte; children Windy (Alek) Warren, Cort (Jessica) Corwin; grandchildren Logan and Abby Watson, Owen Warren, Cruze, Colton and Cora Corwin; siblings Roger Corwin, Cathy Moorman Parlet, Nancy Moorman Caines, and Terry Moorman-Swartz.


A celebration of life will be held at 5-8pm, August 18th. Connor Bayou Park, 12945 N Cedar Dr, Grand Haven, MI 49417


Rusty will be remembered for his dedication to his family, service to his country, and his mechanical expertise. His kind spirit and generosity touched the lives of many, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
