Renee Christine Gorny

On February 13, 2026, Renee Christine Gorny transitioned peacefully and surrounded by loved ones following a brief illness. Born in Trenton, Mich, Renee grew up in Traverse City, graduating from Traverse City Central Senior High School in 2003. She very much enjoyed the company of family and friends, and while often working server’s hours was known to seek area beaches on sunny weekdays when everyone else was working.

Renee had a bright, vibrant smile, and was the life of the party. She touched many friends just by knowing her. Renee was a figure skater in her youth, and would often play hockey with her three brothers on outdoor rinks built by their father. In fact, being the sister of three older brothers — with whom she would strive to keep up — was what helped make her such a spitfire.

Renee’s son Urijiah (Morgan) — whom she called ‘Sonny Boy,’ — was her pride and joy; she especially enjoyed watching him fish.

Renee was preceded by her father, Richard ‘Rick’ Gorny, who also passed on a Friday the 13th. She is survived by Urijiah, mother Cherie (Sharlow) Gorny, brothers Erik (Lisa) Gorny, Bryan (Marrisa) Gorny, and Joshua (Katherine) Gorny, and her companion Rob. A celebration of Renee’s life will be held this spring/summer.
