Raymond "Ray" Housand, a cherished soul whose laughter and love echoed through the lives of all who knew him, passed away peacefully from natural causes on August 10, 2024, in the care of Hospice. Born on September 1, 1954, in Mishawaka, Indiana to Ray and Ida Housand who preceded him in death. Ray's journey through life was one marked by joy, service, and an unwavering commitment to his family and community. Ray's life was a testament to the power of love and dedication. Together with his beloved wife, Kimberly, he created a home filled with love. His children, Cassandra, Kyle, Ashley (preceded Ray in death), Joshua and Chris (alongside his wife Lindsay), were dearly loved and he instilled in them the values of integrity, loyality, compassion and humor. Ray was a proud grandfather to Katie(Robert), Kirsten, Henry, and Oliver, and a proud great-grandfather to Henry and Hayden. The legacy of his love will live on through them. His siblings, Linda Taylor (with husband Bill), Blanche Brown (with husband Tim), and Paul Housand (with wife Wendy), along with many loved nephews and nieces, will fondly remember Ray's larger-than-life presence and his ability to turn any gathering into an occasion filled with laughter and joy.
Ray was a veteran. His commitment to his community did not end with his military service; as a city and county highway employee, he worked to ensure the safety and well-being of his fellow citizens. Ray's hands shaped the land he loved, and his work ethic was amazing. Ray's passion for the outdoors was evident to all who knew him. An avid fisherman, and hunter he found solace and joy in the tranquility of nature. His love for landscaping and gardening not only beautified his own yard but he also helped others. Ray's life was a reflection of his faith-filled spirit. He lived by the principle that love and laughter are the cornerstones of a life well-lived. His sense of humor was infectious, and his ability to find the silver lining in every cloud uplifted those around him. Ray never met a stranger. He always made time in the moment for family and friends. To say that Ray was loving, faith-filled, and funny is to capture only a glimpse of the man he was. His laughter was a sound that will continue to play in the memories of his loved ones. His faith was the compass that guided him through life's journey. And his love was the anchor that held his family fast. Ray Housand's life was beacon of hope based on his love for Jesus Christ. A reminder that the simplest things—a kind word, a shared joke, a day spent in nature—are the essence of a fulfilling life. As we reflect on his life, we are reminded that our time here is precious, and that to live with the same generosity of spirit that Ray did is the greatest tribute we can offer. In the wake of his passing, the world may seem a little less bright, but the light of Ray's spirit continues to shine in the lives of those he loved. Let us honor his memory by living fully, loving deeply, and laughing often, just as he did. Raymond Housand's journey on earth may have come to a close, but the story of his life—the joy he brought, the lives he touched, and the love he shared—will never end. It is a story that we will continue to tell, a story that will inspire us to embrace each day with the same exuberance and grace that Ray did. Rest in peace, dear Ray; your legacy will forever be etched in our hearts.
Please join his family in honoring Ray as they celebrate his life.
