Peggy Harris

Margaret “Peggy” Harris age 93, of Rockford, passed away peacefully in her home on April 2nd, 2021. Peggy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great-grandmother, who cherished her family dearly. She was preceded in death by her son Christopher Harris (2003), husband Robert Harris (2008), and her sister Mary Schabel (2010). Born on July 25, 1927 in Muskegon, Michigan, the second of two daughters - her family moved to Richmond Indiana when she was a child. It was at Richmond High that she met her future husband Robert Harris. In the early 1950s they moved to Muskegon, and then to Grand Rapids in 1969. Peggy was well known for being a hardworking housewife and after her youngest child went off to school she went to work in an office, eventually landing in the Commercial Real Estate business, where she worked for Colburn & Hundley until the age of 80. In her later years she traveled around the world with her husband Bob to Ireland, Wales, Scotland, England, Belgium, Holland, Germany, E. Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, France, Spain, Gibraltar, Morocco, Egypt, Israel, Greece, Mykinos Island, Santorini Island, Rhodes, Cypress, Crete, Turkey, Aruba, Mexico, Panama, Costa Rica, Grand Caymans, Colombia, Fiji, Australia, and New Zealand. She also traveled to Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Poland, Russia, China, and Korea with her sister Mary. She will be lovingly remembered by her children; Jeff (Paula) Harris, their children; Jeffrey, Meghan, Amanda, and Kerry; Kathy Langan, her children John and Lindsay; Steve (Stela) Harris, their children Lynne, Michelle, Rachel, Stephanie, Robert, Katelyn, and Kevin; Lisa (Phil) Swinehart, their children Severin and Ian; Paula (Lonnie) Horne, her children Kathie Ann, Joshua, and Aubrey; Matt Harris, his daughters Jessica and Leah; Chris’ daughters Andrea, Christa, and Erin; nieces, Susan Kelpe, Nancy Mahon, and Marcia Sant Amour, and many great grandchildren as well as one great great-grandchild. The family wishes to thank all the caregivers of Faith Hospice for the amazing support they provided. A special thanks to Stela Harris for her daily care and a HUGE thank you to Matt Harris and his daughter Jessica who watched over mom for several years! An outdoor celebration to honor Peggy’s life will be held later in the summer.
