It is with great sadness that we announce the recent passing of our beloved mother. While we are devastated here on Earth, we take comfort in knowing she is in the arms of Jesus. She is free from any pain and whole again after her brief battle with cancer.
Born May 30, 1947, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to James and Lorraine Hurley, she was one of seven children: Diane (Ken), David (Pat), Tim (Karen), Scott (Theresa), Chris, and Todd. Some of her fondest memories were fishing with her dad in the quiet morning hours; being brave enough to catch as her brother, Tim, practiced pitching; going on a Carnival cruise; and spending many, many moments together. She loved the Sunday tinfoil dinners at Sandy Pines, fishing in Canada, Thanksgiving at “The Farm,” Christmas Day at her parents’, and so many games of Euchre and Skip-Bo.
She attended Kelloggsville High School, where she met her lifelong friends. They called themselves “The Five Pack.”
She is survived by her children: Robin (Bill), Vicky (Brian), and Mark; her precious grandkids, Kristen, Jasmine, McKenzie (Brandon), Jacob (Alycea), Montana, Mason, and Mitchell; and three great-grandbabies, Malia, Charli, and Braxton.
Our family is so blessed to have so many memories with “G.” Trips to Menards, Subway after going to the Y, secret coloring books, playing Super Mario, Duck Hunt, Fortnite, and many other video games to stay current with the grands. We played a zillion games of Catch Phrase, Killer Uno, and Nasty Things. God, she was fun! She also loved to read whatever the girls were reading, going to the movies, dancing, and playing Don’t Break the Ice with Malia. I think her favorite was the one last cuddle with “her babies,” Charli and Braxton (not even a month old yet), along with her sweetheart Malia.
Mom also loved fishing! She would go anytime, anywhere. She could spend hours showing us her fishing gear. Makes me smile to think of it. Thank you, Mark, for taking her out one last time.
Her kids and grandkids could count on her for whatever was needed. She was present! Doing puzzles, school concerts, or sporting events, she was there rooting passionately for us. She also spent Sundays with her family, very vocally watching the Detroit Lions play. Shout out to Sam LaPorta and Jake Bates, “her boys.”
This clever and patient lady coached each of her daughters’ very successful softball teams. She was a saint to put up with our extreme silliness. She was the best at what she did, a phenomenal coach.
This dear, sweet woman was incredibly kind, generous, supportive, and so proud of her family. She was a blast to be with, often making us laugh ’til we cried or someone peed. She was one of a kind, with a beautiful soul. She will be greatly missed and remembered with a smile.
We love you, Mom/Grandma/GG.
In respect to her wishes, we have decided not to have a funeral, but to gather May 30th. It would have been her 80th birthday. We can’t think of a better way to celebrate how magnificent she was.
Please join us at Creekside Park, 1835 68th Street, Dutton, MI 49316, at 12 p.m.
If you’re able, please bring some photos. If you have a story, quote, or just something to say, write it down to add to a memory book. We want her legacy to live on.
