Patricia Klooz, affectionately known as Patty, a beloved figure in the Saugatuck community, passed away on March 3, 2026, in Allegan, Michigan, at the age of 75. Born on September 17, 1950, in Holland, Michigan, Patty grew up surrounded by family, love, and the quintessential charm of the Midwest. She was the second of three sisters, with her older sister Susan and younger sister Jamie. Even as a young girl, Patty was a spirited soul; she enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, often riding her beloved pony Trixie and performing as a Dutch dancer.
After graduating from West Ottawa High School in 1968, Patty embarked on a remarkable career that spanned an impressive 57 years in the restaurant industry. Here, she became a cherished server at various local eateries, including Billie's Boathouse, the Parkway, and the Paisley Pig, ultimately retiring from Tell Tales Trattoria in August 2025. To her regular customers and the countless friends she made along the way, Patty was considered a legend – a vibrant personality who brought warmth and laughter to every dining experience. She had a rare gift for connecting with people; new servers would keep her engaged with tales of their lives, and she embraced these relationships with a fervor that mirrored her passion for service.
Patty delighted in celebrating life with friends and family, making each birthday unforgettable with cake and joyous gatherings. A gifted cook, she was known for her impressive Thanksgiving spreads, complete with her signature homemade gravy. Her love for family was evident, and she took immense pride in her daughters, Elizabeth and Olivia, and her grandchildren, Merrick, Stella, and Emma. Each of them was a treasure in her eyes, and she relished any opportunity to gather around the table or embark on car rides along the scenic streets of Saugatuck and Holland.
Outside of her work and family, Patty had hobbies that showcased her vibrant character. She was an ardent fan of Michigan State Basketball, passionately supporting Coach Izzo's team. Known for her impeccable makeup and love of red lipsticks, she carried herself with style. Music also colored her life; she held a deep admiration for Elvis Presley, a fondness rooted in a memorable concert she attended as a young teenager at Wings Stadium.
Fiercely independent and strong-willed, Patty was a force to be reckoned with. She had a reputation for her kindness, always ready to lend a helping hand, and her infectious laughter stayed in the hearts of those fortunate enough to experience it. She brought the sun to any gathering, relatable in her love for the beach, where she would soak up the sun at Holland State Park during her youth.
Patty is survived by her beloved daughters, Elizabeth Gore and Olivia Klooz, son-in-law Brandon Gore, and her cherished grandchildren, Merrick Pifer, Stella, and Emma Schippa. Her legacy will be honored by her devoted sister, Susan Klooz, who remembers their shared childhood filled with laughter and adventure.
Patty now joins her parents, Jim and Evelyn, and her sister Jamie, who went before her. Though she is gone, her spirit continues to illuminate the lives of those she loved. A celebration of Patty’s life is planned for late spring; please look to Facebook for upcoming details. She leaves behind a legacy of strength, kindness, and a devotion to family that will never be forgotten.
