Ned Jay Jorgensen, aged 81, passed away on October 17, 2024, after a long illness that he faced with characteristic determination and courage. Born on November 12, 1942, Ned's life was marked by his commitment to service, his love for the outdoors, and his exceptional handiwork that touched the lives of many.
Ned proudly served his country as a Sergeant in the Air Force, where he honed his leadership skills and his precision in every task he undertook. Following his military service, he channeled his discipline and attention to detail into a successful career as a surveyor. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Surveying and was certified in construction and bartending, showcasing his diverse interests and abilities. As a surveyor, Ned supervised teams, ensuring accuracy and quality in each project, and his talent for building and renovating structures was well known and respected in his community.
Beyond his professional life, Ned was a man who cherished the simplicity and beauty of nature. He found joy in hunting deer and squirrels, always with a deep respect for the environment. His passion for the outdoors extended to his skill in refinishing furniture, where he could often be found giving new life to old pieces with his deft hands and keen eye for detail.
In his later years, Ned's generosity and kindness were evident in how he volunteered his time. He was a familiar and friendly face at his living facility, where he volunteered to drive friends and run errands for fellow tenants. His willingness to help others made him a beloved member of his community.
Ned's family was the cornerstone of his life. He is survived by his brother, William Jorgensen, and sister-in-law, Clara Steier, who will miss him dearly. The memory of his beloved daughter, Christina Jorgensen, who preceded him in death, remained in his heart always. Ned was also predeceased by his parents, William and Ferne (Ellafrits) Jorgensen, and his sisters Iola (Larry) Devine, Hazel (Larry) Smith, Geraldine (LeRoy) Christensen, Dorothea (Vernon) Ellsworth, Jean (Robert) Zimmerman, and Evelyn Jorgensen. His family will remember him as a very quiet and private person , a man who stood steadfast through life's challenges.
Ned's legacy is one of dedication, whether to his country, his trade, or to the people around him. Those who knew him will recall his willingness to lend a hand. He was a man who built not just structures, but also relationships and communities, leaving a lasting impact on all he encountered.

Services for Ned Jorgensen will be held at the Fort Custer National Cemetery on Friday, October 25, 2024 at 11:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to the honor guard service. Please arrive ten minutes prior to the service.
