Nancy Harig

Nancy Harig, a beloved member of her family and cherished friend to many, passed away on March 3, 2026, in Grand Rapids, after a lengthy illness. She was born on November 3, 1937 to Frank and Mary Stankey.  She was raised on the family farm in Wayland along with brothers Bill, Dick, Ron and Frank.  

She was a proud graduate of Wayland High School, class of 1955. After her children were in school, Nancy joined her husband at Steelcase.  

Nancy's family was the center of her universe. She is survived by her children: Mary (Steve) Ryan, Vickie (Russ) Morren, Tom Harig (Penny-deceased), June VanDyken (Joe Scheid-deceased) Ken (Amy) Harig), Paul (Connie) Harig, several beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  Brothers Bill (Lis), Ron (OkJung), sister in law Linda Stankey. 

She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Ernie, whose memory she cherished deeply. Nancy was also preceded by her parents, Frank and Mary Stankey, her brothers Dick  and Frank, along with sister-in-law Marilyn. Great granddaughter Kendra Kozal.  She was also proceeded in death by Ernie’s brother Marvin (Anna), sisters Anna (Norm) Nichols,  Teresa  (Jim) VanWagner Nancy deeply missed all those who passed before her and it’s a comfort to family that she is now reunited.  She will be fondly remembered for her kindness, her laughter, and the warmth she brought into every room. She was an accomplished crafter, sewer, cook and baker. She enjoyed bowling, and was a Detroit Tigers fan.  As we celebrate her life, we honor the profound impact she had on all who knew her. 

The family wishes to thank Raybrook Manor for their loving  care of their mother.  

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, May 3 from 4:00-7:00 at the West Walker Sportsman Club. 0599 Leonard St NW, Talmadge Township.
