Nancy Allen

May 19, 1940 — January 2, 2025

Nancy Joan Allen, née Scheffers, aged 84, passed away peacefully on January 2nd, 2025. Born in Spring Lake on May 19, 1940, she was the youngest daughter of Crystal and Simon Scheffers. Nancy graduated from Grand Haven High School and Kendall College of Art and Design. After college, she pursued a career in advertising in Grand Rapids.

Nancy was known for her independence, big heart, and strong will. Throughout her life, she was an avid Detroit Tigers fan and could often be found filling out her scorecard or managing the office baseball pool. When not watching baseball, she was likely adopting a stray animal, making a delicious pie or her famous buckeyes. In her retirement, she dedicated herself to volunteering at community elementary schools, supporting classroom teachers, and often tutoring refugee students. Later, she continued to tutor adults in her community seeking to improve their English skills.

Nancy loved socializing with her friends during morning coffee hour, weekly Euchre games, and she never missed a potluck or grill day. She was a passionate genealogist, enjoyed indulging in puzzles, and organizing the community library.

She is survived by her daughter, Hesper (Dan); her grandchildren, Olivia and Abby; her sister, Donna; and her many beloved friends.

A celebration of Nancy's life will be held on Saturday, January 18th, 2025, from 1:00pm-3:00pm in the community room at Westminster Meadows Apartments. 1150 Plymouth Ave NE, Grand Rapids.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Fig and Friends Pet Rescue, a cause close to her heart.
