Michael "Mickey" Laughhunn

Michael David Laughhunn, better known as Mickey, was born June 10, 1937 to Loise and Joseph Laughhunn. On December 11, 1956 he married his “sweetheart” Nancy Lee. From that union four children were born: one son, Brian Noel, and three daughters, Cheryl Lynn, Elizabeth Ann, and Rebecca Lynn.

Mickey's big personality and unwavering spirit of generosity were the threads that wove together the tapestry of his relationships. He may have been unabashedly honest in expressing his thoughts, but his genuine concern for others would always shine through. His love for travel became a conduit for spreading joy, and his legacy of generosity lived on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to embark on a journey with him.

One of the things he was best known for was sharing his belief in God and the future through the bible. Talking to others and sharing that belief was where he found true enjoyment. He and his wife started their own study of the bible in 1958 and were baptized together as Jehovah’s Witnesses on April 4, 1960. This faith was why he was confident that he would see Nancy again. He clung to the promise found at John Chapter 5 verse 28 that says an “hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out” to a resurrection. Till the moment he passed away, Mickey was unwavering in his faith in this hope.

Mickey was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Lee, his daughter Cheryl Lynn, both his parents, his brothers Darwin and Edward, and his sisters Phyllis, Patricia, and Lucy. Mickey is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth (Tony) Ridenour, son Brian (Sherry) Laughhunn, daughter Rebecca (Darnell) Small, and his grandchildren; Eric, Jade, Jessica, Taylor (Tim), Alexis, Shawna (Jacob), and Shelby (Isaac) and his siblings, Joe Laughhunn, Linda (Mike) Regina, and Jesse Laughhunn.

Mickey passed away in death on January 9th at home. He was surrounded by his family and friends that day and many days prior. He is survived by so many that loved him and saw him as a father, friend, and mentor. We are thankful for each one who helped and supported him and his family.

The family is having a joint memorial for Mickey and Nancy on February 1st at 2 pm at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home. The address is 13985 Northland Drive, Big Rapids, Michigan 49307. Family will be receiving visitors prior to the memorial from 1-2pm.
