Marilyn Charlotte Ogden, age 97, of Grand Rapids passed away on April 17, 2026. Marilyn was born an only child in Grand Rapids to Raymond and Charlotte Vance. She grew up attending Grand Rapids Public Schools, graduating from Ottawa Hills High School. While in high school, Marilyn was an usher at the Regent Theater in Grand Rapids, then later moved up to cashier at the Keith Theater. After graduation, Marilyn secured a job at Michigan Bell Telephone as a dispatcher.
In 1951, Marilyn married Glen R. Ogden. At that time they moved to Kalamazoo so that he could attend Western Michigan University. Marilyn was able to transfer to the Michigan Bell Office in Kalamazoo, and continued there until Glen graduated. Then back to Grand Rapids where they raised their family of four.
Marilyn’s generous spirit shined through even in the smallest acts of kindness. She loved her family fiercely, and her super power was keeping in touch with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was sharp as a tack, and she kept up on current events so everybody, young and old, loved talking to her. She had a sweet tooth like none other, and calling her an avid Detroit Tiger’s fan would be putting it mildly. She was kind, patient, a good listener and confidant. To put it simply, everybody loved Marilyn and her wonderful sense of humor.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to the exceptional staff at Green Acres in Allendale for the compassionate care shown to Marilyn. In her final hours, she and her family were surrounded by an outpouring of love and support from so many dedicated staff members. The family is also grateful to Faith Hospice for their care and guidance.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years Glen, daughter-in-law Joanne Ogden, son-in-law Tim Tobin, and grandson Joseph Ogden. She is survived by her four children: Rae (Keith) Bunce, Bill (Janet) Ogden, Paula (Jim) Maloley, and Nancy (partner Rod) Tobin, six grandchildren: Casie (John) Bunce, Matt (partner Mandie) Ogden, William/Dub (Samantha) Ogden, Troy Maloley, Mya (Blake) Murphy, Brad (Crystal) Tobin, Ryan (Suzanne) Tobin, and Nick Tobin. Special great-grandchildren include: Taniya, Hailey, & Khloe Ott, Joslyn, Callie, & Danika Ogden, Ethan & Anthony Ogden, Madison & Ryder Tobin, Eva & Miriam Tobin.
