Lucia Wolf

November 22, 1933 — May 22, 2020

Lucia V. Wolf, went home to be the Lord after a fight with cancer on Friday, May 22, 2020, at the age of 86. Lucia was born in Chicago, but lived most of her life in Grand Rapids, at the corner of James and Wealthy since 1973. She grew up near John Ball park where she played as a kid with her brothers and sisters attending Sacred Heart and then Catholic Central. She graduated from Grand Valley University. After having eight children, her catholic and then interdenominational faith inspired her advocacy and activism on behalf of the poor, education reform, and women’s and civil rights. She championed the gospel and all of its avenues from social justice, to a deep abiding faith in her Lord. Her courage in defense of those being victimized sometimes put herself in harms way. Everyone who knew Lucia, knew she was an intense force to be reckoned with yet, she balanced her intensity with an infectious laugh which brought levity to the situation. Her friendly witness for Christ could be seen almost every morning from 1973 to her last week alive picking up trash in her neighborhood. She engaged anyone who walked by, especially the folks at the Wealthy Street Bakery. She was true to her holistic lifestyle, not once taking medication. She never once complained about her cancer or pain. Lucia is survived by her brother Jim, 7 children, 20 grandchildren, and 21 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her son, Sean. Due to COVID-19, funeral will be a smaller family gathering at a private location.
