Kelly James Brown Sr., born November 6, 1966, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2026, at 8:59 PM, surrounded by his loving wife and children.
Kelly was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He found his greatest joy in spending time with his beloved wife of 34 years, Vickie Brown; his five children; his eight grandchildren; and the many family members and friends who meant so much to him.
He had a deep love for the open road and was an avid Harley rider, finding freedom and peace in every ride. Kelly loved the outdoors and could not be kept inside, no matter the weather. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing horseshoes and fishing in all seasons, creating memories filled with laughter and friendly competition. Later in life, Kelly took great pride in caring for his home of the past 26 years. Whether mowing the grass or grading the driveway, he could often be found with a beer in hand and a smile on his face.
Kelly was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need, no matter the time of day or the task at hand. He was a knowledgeable and dependable man who took pride in helping others and sharing what he knew.
Music was always a big part of Kelly’s life—from carrying a boombox on his shoulder with his hair down to his back, to sitting on the deck with his wife, admiring all they had built together.
Kelly will be remembered for his strength, his deep love for his family, the way he lived life on his own terms, and, to the unsuspecting, his unmistakable voice.
He is survived by his loving wife, Vickie Brown; his children: Malerie (JC) Tuttle of Newaygo, MI; Steve (Deanna) Chwalek of Wyoming, MI; Caleb (Jayden) Brown of Eaton Rapids, MI; and Carlos (Jayla) Brown of White Cloud, MI; as well as his cherished grandchildren: Alyisa and Allena Miller, Savannah Purdy, and Addison, Isaac, Sam, Cashmere, and Cecilia Chwalek.
Kelly was preceded in death by his son, Kelly James Brown II.
His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
