Kathleen Polk, 81 years old, passed away Wednesday, July 12th at her home surrounded by her family. Kathy was born July 10th, 1942, in Mt. Clemens to the late Minard and Edith Tubbs. Kathy was an only child and that was why Kathy wanted to have so many children. Kathy met her husband Gerald Polk in 1961 and they were wed on June 20th, 1963. Friends/family state that they were just like from the movie “Grease”. With their personalities, Jerry was “Danny ” and she was “Sandy”. 13 years later, they had 8 children. She is survived by Alan Polk (Tammy), Steven Polk, Stacy Polk, Ryan Polk, Sherri Polk-Pierce (Michael), Jamie Polk, Shelly Plugis. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her oldest son, Gerald “Little Jerry” Polk and one great grandchild.
Kathy celebrated her 60th Wedding Anniversary and 81st Birthday in her last few days. She raised her family in the small town of Fennville, which she loved. Kathy and her husband also “took in” several teenagers that they assisted in raising when the teens had nowhere else to go. The “house in town” was known to all her children’s friends as a place to stop in at any time to chat with “Mrs. Polk”. On a weekend night, there were always cars in the driveway and teenagers enjoying her company. Kathy loved watching her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren in all sporting events. Kathy and her husband enjoyed being involved in Fennville's senior center meetings and attended them regularly. Her two loving cats slept with her every night, even in the last few days.
The family would like to express their thanks to Hospice of Holland and if desired, any contributions can be sent to them. The family is also hosting a casual “Celebration of Life” Saturday, July 29th from 2 p.m. – 6 p.m. at 1492 Lakeshore Drive, Fennville, MI 49408.
