Karl D. Zwaanstra of Allendale, Michigan, (November 11, 1964-October 27, 2024) was the eldest son of Mary (Vanden Bosch) and Henry Zwaanstra (both deceased), adopted as an infant. He is survived by siblings, Kerrie (Roger) De Vries from Indiana and Matthew (Sherie) Zwaanstra from Idaho, along with their children and grandchildren. He is survived by aunts and uncles: John Zwaanstra (California), Jay & Marj Zwaanstra from Colorado, Carol Rottman from Michigan, Susan and Larry Kieft from Colorado and Bill Vanden Bosch from New Mexico. Karl was able to attend the funeral of his dear mother, Mary, in February.
Karl will be greatly missed by his best friend, Leissa Baudine-Ortiz, with whom he traveled extensively, as well as by friends Aaron Silver and Christine Winstrom. His travels included trips to the Caribbean and Costa Rica, as well as many places within the United States.
Karl attended Calvin College (now University) and did a stint in the military.
Karl had many canine friends, especially the standard poodles that he raised at The Silver Swan Kennels. The poodles he bred, raised and sold now live in many parts of the world. He had a way with dogs and treated them as family.
A gathering to honor Karl’s life will happen in the future.
