June Marie Fraley, age 87, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2025, in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Born in Eckerman, Michigan, into a family of 14 children to Stanley and Catherine Roach, June was the last surviving sibling in a large, loving family. She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Richard D. Fraley; her sons, Richard A. Fraley, Doug Fraley, and Timothy Fraley; and all 13 of her brothers and sisters.
June was a tough Yooper, a devoted mother of eight children, and a woman whose life was defined by unwavering dedication to her family. She was a loving, kind, patient and compassionate wife to her husband and a gifted homemaker. She was known for filling her kitchen with comforting aromas of home-cooked meals, canned goods, and fresh pies. She created a warm, welcoming home filled with love and tradition. June resided in Grand Rapids for the last 9 months, bringing an abundance of love and joy to her family here.
A skilled crocheter, June spent many joyful hours crafting baby blankets and lap throws with a close group of friends. Their handmade gifts were donated to organizations throughout the Marquette community and even featured in local newspapers, recognizing their heartfelt contributions.
June also found joy in the simple pleasures: sipping tea, reading on her Kindle, and sitting on the deck surrounded by flowers and the peace of nature. During her many years living in the U.P., she loved feeding deer apples at her home in Big Bay. She had a special fondness for houseplants, puzzles, and collecting salt and pepper shakers, magnets, and anything cow-related. Her love of puzzles has become a legacy, passed down to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
A private memorial service, per her request, will be held to honor June’s life and legacy.
Her memory lives on in the hearts of her surviving children: Pamela Hightshoe (Chad), Sandra Whales (Joe), Kimberly DenHerder (George), Karen Chytka (Eric), and Dorothy Fraley; as well as many grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, her beloved Patches, and all who were fortunate enough to know her warmth, strength, and grace.
The family is eternally grateful to Trillium Woods for their tender care and compassion during June's final days with us.
