Judy Posthumus

April 12, 1940 — March 4, 2025

Judy Ann Posthumus, a beacon of love and wisdom, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2025, at the age of 84, in her hometown of Grand Rapids, MI, the same place where her story began on April 12, 1940. Known for her passionate spirit and her profound love for the written word, Judy's life was one of deep connection—to her family, her friends, and the countless lives she touched.

A proud graduate of Calvin College, Judy's intellectual curiosity and her degree in Social Science were the foundation for her long and fulfilling career at Schuler Books and Music store. Upon her retirement, Judy left behind not only a legacy of diligence and dedication but also a community of colleagues who admired her for her knowledge and her unwavering support.

Judy was a loving mother, aunt, and friend. She is survived by her devoted son, James A. Horlan; her doting nieces, Julie A. Bell, Bonnie Schlieker, and Lori B. Lugg; and her caring nephew, Dirk J. Bouma. Each of them, along with her cherished cat, Annie, held a special place in Judy's heart, and she in theirs. Her presence was a warm and comforting embrace, a testament to the love she generously shared.

Judy had a deep love for reading and could often be found immersed in a good book. Her passion for literature was not confined to her profession. Judy was an active member of a local book club and loved the performing arts.

Her love of cats was well known, and she provided a loving home for many feline friends over the years.

Judy was deeply loved by those who knew her.

Her presence brought warmth and kindness to many lives.

Judy Ann Posthumus's journey on earth may have come to an end, but her memory will continue to inspire and bring comfort those who mourn her passing. Her legacy is not only in the books that line the shelves but also in the stories that she leaves behind, stories of kindness, laughter, and an unwavering zest for life.

As we bid farewell to Judy, we remember her not with sadness but with a smile, knowing that she lived a life full of the things she loved most. She was a treasure to her family, a cherished member of her community, and a friend to all. Judy's story is one that will be told and retold, a narrative that, like the best of tales, will endure through the ages.
