John Ross Yeakey Jr., a kind-hearted soul whose love for food, family, and the great outdoors touched the lives of all who knew him. He passed away peacefully, after a long six year battle with cancer, surrounded by family in Coldwater, Michigan, on October 20, 2025, just days after celebrating his 59th birthday.
Born on October 17, 1966, in Coldwater, John was known by many as a remarkable cook and an avid foodie who cherished sharing meals with those he loved. His kitchen was always filled with the aroma of delicious food, made with love and joy. John found deep pleasure not only in cooking, but in gathering family and friends around the table, fostering connections and memories that will be treasured by all.
As a dedicated family man, John reveled in the joys of parenthood and grandparenting. He took great delight in road trips to Northern Michigan with his family, creating lasting memories against the backdrop of beautiful scenery. John enjoyed the little moments spent with his grandchildren, engaging in arts and crafts projects that sparked their creativity and laughter. He was a gentle, patient teacher, whether he was coaxing them to cast a fishing line or helping them perfect their latest project with glue, colored pencils, and glitter.
John's nurturing spirit extended beyond his family. He was a devoted animal lover and could often be seen taking his beloved fur baby, Maggie, for walks. Alongside his passion for animals, he cared deeply for nature, often stopping to save turtles crossing the road. His love for the outdoors was matched only by his enthusiasm for fishing, a pastime he enthusiastically shared with his wife, children, and grandchildren, teaching them the patience and excitement that comes with each cast.
With a generous heart and a playful spirit, John was known as a loving prankster, always ready to share a hug or brighten someone’s day with his warm smiles. His kindness radiated through his actions, and he would often lend a helping hand to those in need. John's gentle nature and giving personality made an indelible mark on the hearts of many.
One of John's most favorite and memorable days was in September 2022 when he chose to give his life to The Lord and get baptized alongside his wife and grandson at Lake Michigan. He popped out of the water with an overjoyed excitement raising his hands in the air like a champion.
He leaves behind his devoted wife, Elizabeth Yeakey; Their children: Ryan (Brandon) Pope, Jennifer (Seth) Meek, Justin O'Neill, Morgan (Matt) Brown, Kristi (Travis) Springer, Lacey Yeakey, and Friday (David) Reed; his cherished grandchildren Joey, Nevaeh, Lilian, Ezra, Myles, Gage, Caspian, Sawyer, Weston, Isla, Raelynn, Lainey, Boon, David, Paul, and Daniel.
