John A. Swanson, a beloved father and grandfather, passed away on January 31, 2026, in Grand Rapids, MI. Born on July 26, 1949, to Lester and Ruth Swanson, John lived a life filled with cherished memories and deep-rooted connections with his family and community.
John was known as a loving father, a role he embraced wholeheartedly. He is survived by his three daughters: Lisa Bates and her husband Stacy Bates, Wendy Holmes and her partner Danny Holmes, and Kathy Corner and her husband Chris Corner. John was not only a father but also an amazing grandfather and great-grandfather, leaving behind a legacy of 10 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews who will remember him fondly.
Throughout his life, John enjoyed creating memorable experiences with his family and friends. He often reminisced about delightful moments spent eating hot dogs at the Corner Bar in Rockford and the joy of playing baseball and racing bikes at Bob and Marsha Bowman's house. Camping at the Lakes of Valley was another cherished activity that brought him great happiness.
John had a caring personality and was always willing to help others whenever he could, a testament to his generous spirit. His kindness and love will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ruth and Lester Swanson; his sister and brother-in-law Shirley and Wayne Huey; sister and brother-in-law Sharon and Ray Bordeaux; Sister Bonnie DePriest, Brother in Law Terry Thomas and Granddaughter Tori Corner
John leaves behind a rich legacy of love and memories that will continue to resonate within the hearts of those he touched. He will be remembered for his warmth, compassion, and the countless lives he enriched throughout his journey.
