Joan L. Miller, aged 89, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2026. Born in1937, to her beloved parents, Joan's life was filled with love, dedication, and an unyielding spirit that touched everyone around her.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, John and Lillian Groendyk, her cherished daughter Deborah (Miller) Nieto, son-in-law James Collins, and grandson, Bradley Overholt.
Joan is survived by her loving daughter Robin (Dave) Overholt, devoted son Michael Miller, caring granddaughter Amy Lovejoy, numerous great-grandchildren, and her faithful feline companion Roland. She was a loving, fierce, and amazing single mother whose family was her world. Joan's friends and family will remember her as a woman who loved to spend time with the people she cared about the most.
Joan was a dedicated worker at General Motors for 30 years, retiring in 1992. Her career was marked by her hard work and dedication, and she carried these traits into her retirement. She was an avid gardener and cat lover, her yard always blooming with flowers and her home filled with the soft purrs of her feline companions.
Her accomplishments were many, but the love she had for her family, her commitment to her work, and the strength she displayed as a single mother are the legacies she leaves behind. Joan's life was an example of resilience, determination, and unwavering love.
The family will host a memorial brunch to remember and honor Joan's life on Saturday, July 18, 2026, from 11 am to 1 pm at the Brook Village Club House located at the corner of 809 Brook Village Drive, Holland, MI 40423. All are welcome to join and celebrate Joan's life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the ASPCA in Joan's honor. This is a testament to Joan's love for cats, and her generous spirit will continue to help animals in need.
Joan L. Miller was a beacon of strength and love in this world. Her presence will be greatly missed, but her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of everyone who knew her.
