Joan Jean Corlin, a devoted wife, loving mother, and the heart of her family, passed away peacefully on 12 December 2025 at the age of 88. Joan was born to Charles and Clara Fessell on March 11, 1937 in Grand Rapids, MI, where she spent her entire life.
She met the love of her life, Doug, In Grand Rapids where they raised the family that Joan cherished.
For many years, Joan chose the role she valued most—staying at home to care for her family. Her days were filled with the work that made a house a home. She cooked countless meals, kept traditions alive, took care of grandchildren & great grandchildren, offered a listening ear, and created a place where everyone felt safe, welcome, and loved.
She loved her cats, picking berries with her grandchildren, and always was willing to share a donut. Her influence shaped not only her children, but all those fortunate enough to know her, including her neighbors whom she held dear to her heart.
She is survived by Doug, her husband of 67 years; her children and their spouses; Greg and Marie, Janet, Keith and Marcell, grandchildren; Tiffany (Joshua), Sean (Katie), Tony, Billy (Emily), Anna and great grandchildren; Kyler, Grayson, Jack, Jillian, and Harrison. She was preceded in death by her son Brad, her brother Jerry, her Sister Bonnie and Bonnie’s husband Gene.
Though her work was often unseen, its impact was immeasurable. Her home was always open and she was always there as the family caregiver. The love she gave so freely will continue to live on in the lives she touched.
A celebration of life to celebrate Joan’s life will be held in the near future.
