Jean Ann Zamiara Peterson, 78, of Mulliken, Michigan, passed away on February 5, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with COPD and dementia.
Born on September 21, 1947, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Jean was the daughter of Leonard and Mary Jean (Skinner) Zamiara. She graduated from West Catholic High School in 1965 and went on to build a life defined by dedication, resilience, and deep love for her family.
Throughout her life, Jean worked in several professions, including as a nurse, secretary, beautician, and auditor. In every role she held, she brought care, commitment, and a strong work ethic.
On her wedding day, she married the love of her life, Robert “Bob” James Peterson. Together they shared over 56 years of marriage, building a home filled with love, laughter, and unwavering devotion.
Jean was a proud and loving mother to her daughters, Stacy Peterson and Erika (Jamie) Long. She cherished her role as grandmother to Lillian, Gage, Nathan, and Jacob, who brought her immense joy and pride.
Jean was truly unforgettable. She had a fun spirit, a contagious laugh, and never met a stranger. She loved to travel and embraced life with warmth and openness, making friends wherever she went. Her vibrant personality and welcoming heart touched everyone who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her infant son, Andrew John Peterson; and her son-in-law, James Chason.
Jean is survived by her devoted husband, Bob; her daughters and grandchildren; her sisters Yvonne (Mike) Mabin, Fran (John) Mroz, Margaret (Jeff) Wilkinson, and Cathy (Jerry) Kirkwood; many nieces and nephews; and her best friend of over 20 years, Sabina Ramont.
A memorial service will be planned at a later date.
Jean’s strength, laughter, and deep love for her family will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
