Jaun Hernandez

May 15, 1974 — April 17, 2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jaun "John" Hernandez, a beloved father, son, brother, and grandfather, who left this world on April 17, 2025, at the age of 50, in Grand Rapids, MI.

Born on May 15, 1974, in Sarasota, FL, to George and the late Stormy Dunlap, John lived a life marked by adventure, craftsmanship, and an unwavering love for his family. John, known for his long hair and an impressive collection of tattoos, was a man who embraced life with both hands. His career as a skilled carpenter and a dedicated producer worker at Meijer allowed him to express his creativity and handy nature. John's work was not just a job; it was a testament to his ability to create and fix, making him a valuable and respected member of his community. Outside of work, John's passion for heavy metal music, love for a cold beer, and the great outdoors were the simple pleasures that brought joy to his life.  His adventurous spirit led him on many travels, always seeking new experiences and making lasting memories. John's love for nature was only matched by the love he had for his family, taking immense pride in his children and cherishing every moment spent with them. He is survived by his father, George Dunlap; his siblings, Olivia Dunlap and Mina Dunlap (Justin Hogue); his children, Devon Hernandez, Damien Hernandez, Sierra Hernandez, Logan Hernandez, and Joe Lutz; his former wife of 22 years, Doris Hernandez; and his adored grandchildren, Brantley, JJ, AJ, Tyson, Braxton, Mina, Brett, and Desmond. John also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles who loved him dearly. John's life was a vibrant tapestry woven with threads of adventure, handiness, and an interesting character that touched everyone he met.

As we mourn his passing, we also celebrate the indelible mark he left on our hearts. John Hernandez will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to inspire all who knew him.
