Janet Cartwright of Lake Odessa, MI passed away peacefully at home and surrounded by her family July 2, 2023. Janet was born December 12, 1929 in Urbana, Ohio to Irene Appel Hueston and Robert Hueston and had one younger brother, Richard (Dick) Hueston. She married the love of her life, Benjamin H. Cartwright of West Virginia. After graduating from Urbana High School, she obtained her nursing degree from Miami Valley and worked at Mercy Memorial Hospital She was a resident of Urbana, Ohio until she and her husband moved to Michigan to be closer to family in their later years. She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany where she taught Sunday School, served as Directress of the alter guild along with directing and making costumes for the children's Christmas plays. Janet was inducted into the Society of St. Simeon and St. Anna, an Episcopalian society that celebrates exemplary Christian ministry in the Diocese of Southern Ohio. Janet loved to read and served on the Urbana Library Board. She loved quilting, knitting and counted cross-stitch. Most importantly, she was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother. In her later years, you would often find her with her young granddaughters, teaching them how to knit or do counted cross-stitch or spending time with her grandsons putting together puzzles.
Janet leaves two daughters Rebecca (Jim) Stafford, Lake Odessa, Michigan and Jennifer (Jerry) Busse, Wauseon, Ohio. She also leaves eight grandchildren: Karen Shaftner, Lara (Matt) Stewart, Mark Shafter, Benjamin (Erin) Cartwright, Katherine Busse, Paul Busse, Madeline Busse and Luke Busse. Step Granddaughters Jennifer (Kevin) Hummel and Jamie Stafford. She also leaves nine great grandchildren: William Reed, Alex Reed, Charlotte Reed, Carmen Weller, Preston Weller, Spencer Weller, Raegen Weller, Aaliyah Cartwright, Bristol Cartwright, six step great grandchildren: Christopher Stolnacke, Abigale Hummel, Bradon Hummel, Darren Case, Makayla Jeffrey, and Allie Brooke, and two great great grandchildren: Indigo S. Reed and Beau Daylia Weller.
Janet was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin H. Cartwright (December 23, 2005), Daughter, Susan K Cartwright (August 2, 1977) Son, Benjamin L. Cartwright (July 18, 1986)
Graveside services will be held for the family at 12:00pm July 21, 2023 Oak Dale Cementary, Urbana, Ohio. Memorial donations in memory of Janet Cartwright can be made to your favorite charity.
