James Woods

May 17, 1943 — December 9, 2021

James Michael Woods Sr., currently of Stanwood, formally from Bay City, our devoted husband, father, papa, brother, uncle and friend passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 9, 2021 at the age of 78 with all of his family by his side. Jim was born to Floyd H. and Kathlene (Musch) Woods on May 17, 1943 in Essexville. Jim spent most of his life in Bay City. He graduated from Bay City Central High School and also attend Central Michigan University. He went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Marine Corps. After returning home Jim continued to serve the public for 30 years with many different rolls within the Bay County Sherriff Department. After his 1997 retirement he began to grow restless and started his second career as the Head of Security at the Bay City Mall for Valor Security. He loved walking the corridors and stopping in to check on all the stores and people that soon became his friends. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Cheryl; children, Sunny, Kristy (Stuart), James (Lauren) and McKinley (Laurren); grandchildren, Patience, Adam, Dylon, Jackson, Avary, Carson, Stella, Elijah, and Hannah; and great-grandchildren, Samyrah and Jalen. Also surviving are his brother, Floyd (Mary Ann) Woods, brother-in-law, Dale Huggard; sisters-in-law, Beth Woods, Bonnie Hanover and Tina Thorne; special nephew and niece, Floyd Huggard and Kathy Buffman; and last but not least, his beloved dog, Arthur. Jim is predeceased by his parents, Floyd H. and Kathlene Woods brothers Robert and Frank Woods and his sister Kay Huggard. Jim loved watching all sports, but he spent many years traveling and playing blooperball, slow pitch and bowling. By far his two favorite baseball players to watch were his grandsons. In retirement he also loved spending time with his wife, children and precious grandchildren. He made world famous meatloaf and loved to share the recipe with anyone that asked. Keeping to Jim’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no memorial service at this time.
