James Henry VanAndel, a cherished member of his community and a dedicated family man, passed away peacefully at home on August 23, 2025, at the age of 62. Born on July 22, 1963, in Muskegon, James lived a life filled with loyalty, love, and a passion for learning.
James was a proud graduate of the Mona Shores High School class of 1981. He carried the spirit of a true craftsman throughout his life, making a successful career in construction as well as tending to his love for fixing cars and motorcycles. His diverse skill set was a reflection of his passion for mastering new things, a trait that endeared him to many.
A man of unparalleled loyalty, James was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. His warmth and kindness left a powerful impact on those who knew him best. He found joy in the companionship of his dog, Jazelle, and they shared countless unforgettable moments riding his beloved Harley Davidson. A passionate motorcyclist, James was actively involved in the Muskegon Motorcycle Club and District 14, where he formed lasting friendships and further cemented his legacy in the local motorcycle community.
James's love for motocross was evident from a young age, as he achieved significant success as a professional racer. In his 50s, he took on the challenge of hill climbing, which brought him numerous championships and even greater pride.
James leaves behind a devoted family who will deeply miss his presence. He is survived by his daughter, Shawnna (Robert) Cook, and his son, Ravyn (Deisha) Van Andel. His cherished sisters—Cheryl (Stan) Policka, Nancy (David) Wells, Ruth (Bob) Cross, and Lori Van Andel—will carry fond memories of their beloved brother. James was also the proud grandfather of eight grandchildren and a great-grandfather to one great granddaughter.
His special partner, Michelle Archambeau, along with her children Chris (Amy), Joy, and Vanessa, held a special place in his heart, and he embraced their family, including her three grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
James was preceded in death by his father James Van Andel, mother Shirley Van Andel, sister Susan Hart, and son James Van Andel. Their memories will continue to live on through the love he fostered and the stories he shared.
James Henry VanAndel’s legacy of hard work, love for family, and community spirit will be remembered fondly by all who had the pleasure to know him.
