James A. Lowther passed away peacefully in his home on June 5th with his sister and his partner by his side. Jim was born on July 9, 1951 to Jaunita B. and James W. Lowther. He was a fun-loving, giving man who has sprinkled kindness and generosity throughout the world. He is survived by his partner of 12 years, Johnny Hemmer, sister Mary (Tim) Moore, niece Anna (Michael) Schoenborn, and nephews Brantley and Bennett Moore.
Jim loved the arts and living in New York City where he accumulated his many interesting stories. One of his favorites was having been “the best escort Lena Horne ever had.” He put his many abilities to work through city assessing, home design, and community mental health. He was active in continuous recovery for 43 years, and his passion was helping others.
Jim’s heart was as large as his life, and his gifts of time and talent will continue to give through generations.
