Gypsy Roselee Waters

February 13, 1958 — June 29, 2025

Grand Rapids

Gypsy Roselee Waters, affectionately known as "Skippy," passed away peacefully at her home in Grand Rapids on June 29, 2025, surrounded by her loving family, including her four children and many friends. Born on February 13, 1958, Gypsy was a lifelong resident of Grand Rapids, where she made countless memories and friendships.

Gypsy was a woman of strong character, renowned for her open-mindedness and her unapologetic honesty, which endeared her to everyone around her. Her legacy as a strong woman resonates in her children, whom she taught to embrace strength and resilience in all aspects of life. Gypsy's love for family was evident in the cherished moments spent together, particularly when she played Rummy with her daughter, Mara, or gathered to watch movies, with "The Golden Girls" being a family favorite.

In addition to her family bonds, Gypsy found joy in her personal interests. She had a passion for collecting black Panthers and often enjoyed the soothing sounds that came from her beloved record player. These simple pleasures brought her happiness and were a reflection of her vibrant personality.

Gypsy leaves behind her devoted children: daughter Mara Rodriguez and sons Daniel (Krista) Rodriguez Jr., Cary John (Nicole) Waters, and John Waters. Her legacy continues through her thirteen grandchildren—Zachery, Justin, Cody, Austin, Alexis, Alecianna, Alex, Liana, Dayton, Madison, Johnathan, Jayden and Alavia—and her nine great-grandchildren—Emma, Ava, Sofia, Lily, Adalynn, Ezmae, Kohen, Michael, and Asher. She is also remembered lovingly by her sister Carmen and her lifelong best friend, Kathy Edquist, who lived nearby and shared many moments with her.

Gypsy was preceded in death by her husband, Cary S. Waters Sr., her parents, Ida and Robert Nelson, and nine siblings. Her passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of those who loved her, but her spirit, memories, and teachings will continue to inspire her family and friends for years to come. Gypsy Roselee Waters will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
