Gordon Pelkey

November 30, 1956 — May 6, 2025

Gordon "Casper" Pelkey, a cherished soul known for his vibrant spirit and love for life, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2025, in Norton Shores, MI, at the age of 68. Born on November 30, 1956, in Detroit, MI, he spent a lifetime creating joy and laughter for all who knew him.

Gordon was a man of many passions, but perhaps most notable was his love for the open road. For over 17 years, he proudly worked as an over-the-road truck driver, a career that suited his adventurous spirit until health conditions called for a change of pace. His work ethic and dedication to his profession were admired by his peers and will be remembered by all who had the pleasure of working alongside him.

Beyond his professional life, Gordon, affectionately known as Casper, was a man of diverse interests. He was an avid sports fan who found joy in the thrill of the game, whether he was playing or watching. His musical talents shone through in his guitar playing and karaoke performances, where he never failed to entertain a crowd. His love for word find puzzles and video games revealed a man who enjoyed challenges and cherished the simple pleasures in life. A devout student of the Bible, Gordon's faith was a cornerstone of his existence, guiding him through life's trials and triumphs.

Casper's collection of eagles was a testament to his appreciation for freedom and the beauty of nature, while his penchant for coffee indicated his appreciation for life's comforting constants. His sense of humor was legendary, and his propensity for playing jokes and pranks is a legacy of laughter he leaves behind.

Family was the heart of Gordon's world. He is survived by his loving mother, Ruth Recor; his devoted wife of 37 years, Carol Pelkey; and his siblings, Kenny (Sarah) Recor and Kevin (Carol) Pelkey. His children, Katye (Jason) Mosher, Gordon (Melanie) Kooistra, Frances Pelkey, and Brandon Kooistra, will forever cherish the memories and lessons he imparted. His grandchildren, Justin, Alicia, Cory, Ambrosia, Gwendalynn, Robert, Gracie, and Sage, along with his great-grandchildren, McKinley, Satori, and Atlas, will continue to be inspired by his legacy.

Gordon was preceded in death by beloved family members Ken Recor, Billy (Brenda) Recor, Howard Pelkey, Butch Pelkey, and Blake Kooistra. His memory will be a guiding star for the many nieces and nephews who looked up to him.

In times of sorrow, we often turn to the wisdom of those who came before us. As the poet Rumi once said, "Do not grieve. Anything you lose comes round in another form." Gordon "Casper" Pelkey's spirit will indeed come round in the stories shared, the memories cherished, and the laughter that echoes through the lives of those he touched.

A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. Gordon "Casper" Pelkey will be deeply missed, yet his spirit will continue to shine in the hearts of his loved ones, and in the countless lives he has brightened with his presence.
